Logan Elm High School Marching Band Rated Superior at State Finals

On Saturday November 7th the Logan Elm High School Marching Band of Pride performed at the 2009 Ohio Music Education Association’s State Marching Band Finals held at Dublin Coffman Stadium. Giving their most exciting and inspired performance of the season the Marching Braves earned an OMEA rating of “I” or Superior”; in separate caption adjudication the Logan Elm color guard and percussion section both also received ratings of “Superior”. The Marching Braves 2009 competition show is titled “One Small Step…To Touch the Stars” and traces Ohio’s contribution to flying from the first flight by the Wright brothers to Neil Armstrong’s historic landing on the moon.  For the competition the Band of Pride performed Richard Saucedo’s Fanfare for the Third Planet, Into the Light by Jay Bocook, and Samuel Hazo’s Ascend. Saturday’s performance by the Marching Braves at the state marching band finals marked their nineteen appearance in the past twenty one years at the event and their fourth consecutive rating of Superior.

Saturday’s performance marked the end of a fantastic season for the Band of Pride in which they earned five consecutive OMEA ratings of Superior at qualifying competitions, a number of first place finishes in Class B as well as numerous caption awards for Most Outstanding Music, Most Outstanding Visual Effect, Most Outstanding General Effect, and Most Outstanding Color Guard. The 2009 season saw the Logan Elm Color Guard receive five first place finishes in Class B as well as five overall Grand Championships regardless of classification and five consecutive Superior Ratings. The Band of Pride earned their first overall grand championship being crowned Grand Champion of the 2009 Nelsonville-York Buckeye Classic out of a field of sixteen competing bands while earning the highest numeric score in Logan Elm history.

The Band of Pride is under the direction of James A. Chickrell, director of bands at Logan Elm, Casey J. Wagner, associate director of bands, Jeremy J.
